A relaxed monthly meetup to explore Japan and connect with other teachers

Imagine a space where you can explore topics related to Japan, reflect together, and engage in relaxed discussion with other teachers. Nihongo Café 輪和話 (wawawa) is a friendly, low-pressure online meet-up designed for teachers of Japanese who would like to update their knowledge of Japan, deepen their understanding of Japanese culture, gain ideas for their teaching, and chat informally about everyday classroom experiences. Whether you are new to teaching or have years of experience, and whether you are a native or non-native speaker of Japanese, this monthly gathering offers a space for connection, fresh perspectives, and ongoing professional learning.

Why a monthly Nihongo Café strengthens teaching and confidence

Staying connected with the language and culture we teach is powerful. It builds confidence and helps classroom practice feel more natural and authentic. In each session, we explore a Japan-related theme through brief explanations and relaxed discussion, with occasional short quizzes or simple activities depending on the theme.

These sessions provide a safe, low-pressure space for teachers to learn together and stay connected.

Throughout the session, participants will:

  • engage with Japanese in practical ways related to the session topic
  • gain insights, activities, and resources to better engage their students
  • connect with teachers from different regions to exchange ideas and experiences
