Spanish Immersion 2025

In the September school holidays a group of teachers travelled to Madrid and Salamanca for the 2025 Spain Immersion Programme. Here is what they had to say about their two-week whirlwind professional development trip.

Teresa Winstone

My trip highlights were the incredible history, art, and beauty I experienced. The Royal Palace in Madrid was breathtaking, and Salamanca—home to the historic University of Salamanca—was unforgettable. I loved exploring its cathedrals and Plaza Mayor, and visiting Ávila and Segovia to see ancient ruins, the great aqueduct, and masterpieces by Velázquez, Goya, and El Greco.]

Isabelle Verriere

My time in Spain was an unforgettable glimpse into the richness of Spanish culture and language. I loved discovering the rhythm of daily life, exploring the history of Salamanca, Ávila and Segovia, and experiencing Flamenco—both watching and dancing it. The trip was inspiring and gave me new skills and insights to share with my students.

¿Hay algo mejor que aprender la lengua en contexto? Did you know that churros are for breakfast, not dessert? That opting for “las personas” instead of “todos/todas” helps us be gender inclusive? Or that Spain has a $1.2 billion trade opportunity waiting for us? I can’t wait to share everything I’ve learned with my students and work together to plan our first school trip here in 2028!
