After completing a Master’s degree in Japanese language education in Tokyo, Japan, Chisato Yoshioka began her career as a Japanese language teacher at a university in Thailand. She later worked in overseas Japanese language education with the Japan Foundation, supporting Japanese language education in Indonesia, Brazil, Germany, and Hungary. Through these roles, she has been involved in a range of contexts, including starting and delivering new Japanese language courses, as well as professional development for Japanese language teachers across different education sectors and levels. Her professional interests include Japanese phonetics and phonology, with particular attention to sound symbolism and onomatopoeia.
Outside her professional work, she enjoys travelling and spending time learning about everyday culture in different places.
