Dr Jiwei Fu

CHINESE National Language Adviser

Dr Jiwei Fu is the National Chinese Adviser in the Language Circle team and provides support for the teaching and learning of Chinese in New Zealand schools.

Dr. Fu holds a Ph.D. in Chinese Linguistics from Beijing Normal University. He has served as Deputy Director of the Confucius Institute Office at Beijing Language and Culture University, Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute in Islamabad, Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute at Western Michigan University, and National Chinese Language Advisor in New Zealand.

With over 30 years of experience in the field of international Chinese language education, Dr. Fu has been engaged in both teaching and administrative work in multiple countries. His research interests include Chinese linguistics, international Chinese language education, and interculture communicatve language teaching.

With an academic background in language philology (PhD), and over 30 years’ experience in teaching Chinese as a second language, as well as administration experience in international education organisations, he is enthusiastic to facilitate the teaching, learning and understanding of Chinese language and culture in New Zealand.

Jiwei has also worked in China, South Korea, Pakistan, USA, Tonga and New Zealand.
